This project was created in the interest of sustainable practices, harnessing the energy of exercise, a task many of us should do more often.

The Alternator used for power was a found object.
It was found in a late model GM truck on it's way to the scrapper in Red Hook. Sustainatastic!

Our goal for this project is to show, and make you feel, how much human power it would actually take to power the devices and conveniences which we use every single day without a second thought.

This is the derailer that we constructed to channel the fan belt that we attached to the flywheel. John Klien spent hours perfecting this fine piece of craftsmanship that, the very next day, was found smashed on the floor.

The following pictures concern the bicycle that was donated by Mike Creamer, based on his interest of creating a sustainable gym. Initially we used a Dayton DC motor to create power, however the gear ratio we found was not as optimum as we would have liked. In the end we switched to an alternator from a GM lightbody truck.

The alternator used an initial charge to get it started, but once we had it ready we had sucessful results. By riding the bike we had lights, a fan and even a television. What was most amazing about this process was how direct the feedback was while riding the bike.

Unfortunately in the final hour this project failed as we somehow burned out the alternator on the day of the show.
